Bibliographic note STAHL, C. (2014): Cleavage Politics and Europeanisation-induced transformation of the national political space - The Case of the Czech Republic, 94 p. Master thesis, Charles University, Faculty of Social Sciences, Institute of International Studies. Supervisor: doc. PhDr. Jiří Vykoukal, CSc. Abstract This research seeks to map the national political space and assess the prevailing cleavage patterns in the Czech Republic. Processes of globalisation and Europeanisation have left their imprint in Western Europe - splitting the electorate into winners and losers of globalisation and denationalisation. This demarcation vs. integration magnet is also relevant in the CEE region - altering and reshuffling the underlying structure of party competition and EU contestation. By employing quantitative content analysis of print media the prevailing issue and cleavage dimensions will be reconstructed both during early stages of democratic transition (1996 Parliamentary elections) and after the 2004-EU-enlargement (2010 elections). While the political discourse and politics in the 1990s are primarily structured by issues of economic transition and post-communist transformation (underlying the classical socio-economic cleavage between market and state), in 2010 also cultural and post-materialist political...

Evanová, Martina ; Nečas, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Křeček, Jan (referee)
Dissertation "Complex evaluation of a company media reputation and its development." focuses on topics of media reputation, media analysis and evaluation of communication activities. Against the existing theoretical background, its aim is to create, and verify the validity of, a new model for evaluation of media reputation of a firm. In line with the available academic works on the subject, the theoretical part of the dissertation defines the main concepts (reputation, media reputation, media content analysis), summarizes the main approaches to measuring the media reputation of organizations and describes their key advantages and disadvantages. The practical part contains a synthesis of the findings and proposes an integrated evaluation model, which reflects both the qualitative and quantitative criteria. Subsequently, the validity of the evaluation model and the applied individual approaches is verified through its application to the media performance of a particular enterprise, investment company Penta Investments in 2014. The application of the model to a specific case confirms that the proposed model is capable of measuring media reputation of a firm over a period of time and indicating deviations affecting the outcome, as well as evaluating the overall performance of communication targets of a...
Main events happened in Plzeň in 1989 and their reflection in the local daily Pravda
Nová, Alena ; Suk, Pavel (advisor) ; Köpplová, Barbara (referee)
This diploma thesis strives to find an answer to the question of how the regional daily paper Pravda published by the West-Bohemian Regional Committee of KSČ in Pilsen informed about the principal events of the year 1989, namely the series of January demonstrations in the centre of Prague later called "Palach Week", about the Several Sentences Petition published in the midyear by Charter 77, about the demonstrations organized on the occasions of the 21 August 1968 and 28 October 1918 anniversaries, and about the "Velvet Revolution" that put an end to the more than 40-year reign of the Communist Party (KSČ) in Czechoslovakia. The thesis also ascertains to what extent the information provided by Pravda was distorted by the regime propaganda, and compares the approach of this daily paper to informing about the principal 1989 events with that of the central KSČ daily Rudé právo. The diploma thesis also describes the way of how the West-Bohemian Regional Committee of KSČ in Pilsen assessed the development of the political situation in the country in the year 1989 and how it controlled the Pravda daily paper. The theoretical part of the thesis familiarizes with the political and economic situation in Czechoslovakia in the 1980s and describes the relevant milestones in 1989. The thesis core part is the...
